These event id's are not major by any means.

More than likely the DPX service was unable to be confirmed as started by the OS inside the alloted time-frame with the first attempt and the event was created/logged.

As you see with the event ID 7036 the service has now registered with the OS and that comes across as being "in a running state."

It is my understanding that this issue has been addressed under the sp2.

Enjoy

I have a brand new install of this program, on a fresh install of 2k3 Server, on a Proliant ML370. I have no other errors or warnings at all, except that the Data Protector Express service is hanging on boot. It eventually pops the "Service failed" dialogue box and leaves an error in the event log that it hung on startup.

When I look in my Services, it is running. I can't just ignore this error, as something must be wrong.

Anyone have an idea where I could start to look?

Thanks,
Dan B.

Just a note on the RSM services, there was previous reference that it was already addressed. However, RSM in Win 2003 is a huge headache for tape devices.

Just simply 'addressing it' once is not sufficient in some cases.

Use the microsoft article to permanently address RSM.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/842411
The problem is that DPX relies on the "Windows Management Instrumentation Driver Extensions" (WMIDE) service to start before it will start itself. Add the WMIDE as a dependency for the DPX service to start and change the WMIDE service to start automatic (the default is manual start). Reboot your server and the problem should be rectified

Thanx

Marius
