Anyone know what this is? This error code really doesn't mean anything at all. Are the files unable to be backed up because the media is bad, or because the file was in use?

Any help is appreciated :)

We are using Data Protector Express Single Server Edition 3.5 sp2 (build 34497) and running Windows Server 2003 5.2 sp2 (build 3790)

Per the error codes:
3028
ODERR_UNKNOWN_ERROR
Unknown error
Data Protector Express has encountered the following error: ODERR_UNKNOWN_ERROR. Please make a note of this error.
As unknown error it's verry difficult to diagnose and explain you exactly what is wrong.

I recommend you to stop the Data Protector Express services, wait a few seconds, restart the services and retry the operation you was performing.

I was having this same issue, but did manage to solve it. The cause is actually due to the NT Backup API that Data Protector relies upon. Microsoft has a technote about it here --> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304101

Once I applied the registry changes, the 3028 errors stopped.
