MSL6000 Series Loading Problems

Hi,

Recently, our StorageWorks MSL6030 with Ultrium-2 SCSI drive has been giving us some problems. There are good tapes in the library but they will not load properly into the drive.

I've tried using the on-board GUI and if I attempt to load a tape into the drive the robot will insert the tape but it will just hang and then return with an error 8003, which says that the tape failed to load. I've also tried cleaning the drive via the GUI with a cleaning tape and it inserts the tape, hangs, and then returns an error 503B and says it could not load the drive.

I've also tried manipulating the robot directly from the command line. It does not give any errors when I move a tape into the drive but if I try to operate on the tape it says that it was not successfully loaded.

I downloaded HP's Library and Tape Tools (LTT) but I am unable to run many of the diagnostic tests because it never recognizes any tape in the drive. I've also tried using this software to upgrade the firmware but that did not seem to change anything. It is running on firmware rev F68W/OEM20.

I've tried to power cycle and I've checked the cables and all seems well. I'm open to suggestions! Thanks in advance!

Can you use L&TT to generate a support ticket on the drive and library, and post it here? This will help us figure out what's going on.
