I see there's a 15/30 *tape*, but I can't find anything on a 15/30 *drive*.

Here's a link to current products:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/storage/tapedrivematrix.html

... and retired products:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/storage/retiredproducts.html

If you can't determine what Compaq model number the drive is, try to get the actual model # off the unit somewhere - it's made by Quantum (ALL DLT drives are made by Quantum), so if you can get the Quantum product name/number off of it, you should be able to get docs from them as well at www.quantum.com. It should be DLT7000, DLT8000 or something like that.

15/30 sounds like a DLT 2000xt, as it's capacity is 15 uncompressed and 30 compressed. Quantum's page is here: http://www.quantum.com/AM/products/dlt/dlt2000xt/default.htm

There's a link to "technical documents" that looks like you would find it useful.

Good luck,

Vince

just picked up one of these from a friend, seems to work ok, bought some used tapes, but they have media "of an unrecognized format" on it.

Looking to see if someone has a link for a users guide for this tapedrive.

What i want to do is format these so i dont have to keep deleteing the 300+ files that are on it.

thanks for any info

Frank

You don't have to delete the files that are on the tapes. Just overwrite them with new data. Whatever you do, don't bulk-erase them.
Overwriting takes care of the formatting issue.

Chris

Well, right now there are a cpl hundred files on this, and each one it finds as "unrecognized" i get a prompt on. Thats basically the reason why i would like to find a way to get rid of them.

Thanks for the info, i appreciate it much
Chris,

Normally I would just overwrite them, but i get a message box popping up for each file it encounters saying that its unrecognized and unavailable until i "prepare it". Looks like this tape set was an incremental backup set because the filenumbers are hitting 1000+.

Ohwell. Was hoping there was a setting on the unit itself to override any of that and ignore it.

Tho, can you recommend any other software besides the backup program on win2000?

The way I figure it, its unrecognized media, so should just give you a prompt to just erease everything on it or, like you suggested, overwrite it.

Thanks again,

Frank
