Hello,

Ok, you are trying to use the DLT80e on a SE SCSI card, since it is LVD/SE.

But no, DLT80e can run well only on LVD speed (in your case). The 28655 can NEVER allow your DLT80e to perform to its necessary speeds, hence your errors.

In order to use your DLT80e, you should change it. the K-Class supports only HVD connections, not LVD. And no 28696 cards here... you need the A2969A for it to work.

HTH,
Vince

Check that SCSI bus is ok - cable is good and terminator is in place. Try another tape cartridge. Check drive's firmware and upgrade if necessary http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/ltt/index.html
Also please check for pathes installed. Look at this one http://www.software.hp.com/SUPPORT_PLUS/docs/XSW800GR1020.html . Latest and last is Dec 2001 (check with 'swlist -l bundle')
Eugeny

A2969A is FWD (HVD) HSC SCSI adapter, thus it can not be used to connect LVD/SE devices. Direct connect of LVD devices is not supported by K-class. If you'll not succeed to connect DLT80e to the server in SE mode, then try HVD-LVD bus convertors from http://www.paralan.com
For K-class you would better buy DLT8000 drive/assy with HVD SCSI interface...
Eugeny

Hi,
There is something wrong with your configuration, the vs80 should use the stape driver, not the tape2 (it is a DDS driver).
Check the User guide how to create device files for vs80 on HP-UX:
http://h200005.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/lpg29152/lpg29152.pdf

It may also be an idea to install the latest hardware patches.

I would try this before buying a new drive or HBA.
Very good. Then I suspect that HP-PB 28655A SCSI card is a cause. Either it's faulty or is not compatible with this LVD/SE drive (not supported for sure)
Eugeny
