Is there any place to find what the error messages mean for a Surestore Tape 5000E? I cannot find any information in any of the documentation that I have (which is sketchy at best). Thank you.

Thank you for the reply, but unfortunately, this information you directed me to is for a machine we do not own. Our machine is very old, and it is a Surestore Tape 5000

The most often error I get is #103, but sometimes 104. We "lost" the Colorado manual when the firm imploded upon itself four years ago, and I have not reference to refer to.

Hi Donna,

Error codes 103 and 104 sound like failure codes from backup software rather than raw codes from the tape drive itself and so their meaning will be dependant on the backup software you are using.

The error codes from the tape drive are two digits hex values.

This error code will be reported in byte 17 of the SCSI request sense data.

Below is a link to the support info on your product.

http://www.hp.com/cgi-bin/cposupport/docindex.pl?sni=hpsurestor11139&pid=7&t=solve&p=D

I didn't have time to see if there was any error code info listed.

Cheers,

Dave Dewar.
