Hi Mathew,

Unfortunately, I do not believe you will get your data back unless you have a good backup of that data and you are willing to do a restore.

Regards

CHKDSK deleated my files

The other day I was extracting a rather large tar file and i recived a message stating that
my D: directory was corrupt and that chkdsk would be run upon rebooting. I rebooted and windows started up saying that chkdsk was going to check my 200 gb hd for consistency. It then stated "Deleting orphan file record statement #" over and over again with x being a number sequentially rising to 100000+.

After CHKDSK was finished, Windows started up and of the 100 gb of data on the hd, only 2gb was left. The rest has been reallocated as free space. I've been wandering the net ever since trying to find a solution. I've tried different data recovery software but none of them were able to find much. An mp3/jpg file here and there but nothing else. Is there any way to retrieve my data? Is there any way to undo what chkdsk has done? Does anyone have any hints/tips?

I'd appreciate any assistance.

MAthew,
I don't think now you can revert back.
Since chkdsk has deleted those files that means file information in Windows machine was already corrupted or missing.

Regards,

Get in touch with Ontrack Technology at www.ontrack.com. They are data recovery specialists. It isnt cheap, but depending on the data, it may be worth it.
