Thanks to all who responded. I know know how SCSI ID settings work! Thanks for explaining the concept as well as telling me exactly how to set the IDs. The info was very useful.

I have managed to read three of the five drives in the rack that I got. I formatted them and am now testing them on my Mac. The drives are 1.2GB each. There are five drives in the case but only three are showing up with the utilities that I have.

Paul asked for the model number. On the back of the case, I found this:

Model: C2462A (could be a G instead of the C)
Option: STD
Serial: 3216A01186 BOI

The drives that I have managed to format and mount are showing up as HP2474S ver. OB11 and ver. ObO2.

Your assistance is very much appreciated.

Thanks again.

DCK
dck@mac.com

SCSI ID settings?

I was given a box of drives that I was told came off an HP6000. It has 5 SCSI drives in it. After reading this thread, I guess it came off a rack mount server. On the back of the box is printed HPC2462A and a serial number.

The drives power up. The SCSI connector is the usual 50pin used by Macs. I want to mount the drive(s) on my Mac but don't know how to set the SCSI ID's.

My system uses SCSI ID 0, 3 and 7 (internal HDD, CD-ROM and OS). I need to set the IDs to 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 on the back of this box.

There are five sets of three DIP switches - marked 4 2 1
1
0

Can some kind soul please guide me on how to set the SCSI ID's? Pls email me at dck@mac.com.

I have the utility to format the drives in this box. The only problem is the SCSI IDs. I'm no techie but I like tinkering with computer stuff.

Just looking for help with setting the SCSI IDs.

TIA.

Hi David,

I think that you must just add the numbers, so to get scsi id 5: set switch 4 and switch 1 to 1.

No 1 | 2 | 4
-----|----|----|----|
1 | 1 | 0 | 0
2 | 1 | 0 | 0
3 | 1 | 1 | 0
4 | 0 | 0 | 1
5 | 1 | 0 | 1
6 | 0 | 1 | 1
7 | 1 | 1 | 1

You can try this.

Success Marcel,

If you will post the model numbers of the drives I will copy and send you the appropriate pages from the Disk Service Manual and/or the Disk Upgrade Manual which should be chapter and verse on all the jumpers and switches on the drive.
