topic 2012FC storage - snapshot / cloning in General

Hi all,

If I understand, the main difference beetween taking a snapshot of a volume and cloning it, is that:

- a snapshot is a logical copy of data (useful especially in point-in-time recovery)
- a "clone" is a physical copy of a volume (useful especially in disater recovery)

Is this correct?

More than this... What licenses should I buy to perform snapshot/cloning? Just a "shapshot X" license? Or maybe a "volume copy" license is better?

I cannot understand if one license if JUST for snapshots and the other one is JUST for cloning, or if one of the 2 possibilities is "all inclusive"....

Thank you very much

Hello,

you need both licenses if you want to use snapshots AND clones. If you want only snapshots, you need the snapshot license. If you want to use cloning, you need the volume copy license. And "all in" license doesn't exist.

The products are licensed by number of snaphosts/ clones.

Best regards,
Patrick
