Hello,

we are currently running a DL360 gen10 with 64GB of RAM (2x32GB).

And im wondering if it would be better to run it with 4x16GB for saeftey and ram speed reasons.

What is the suggested RAM configuration for 64GB with 2 CPUs(4210)?

Stay Safe

Nibbel

Hi Nibbel ,

The server performance will bethe same if you use 4x16GB DIMMS or 2x32GB DIMMS.

Since the server is installed with 2 CPUs , you need to populate the DIMMs equally with both the CPUs .(That is , 32GB for Each Processor).If there are 2x32GM DIMMs , you need to populate the DIMMs in DIMM slot#8 of each CPU .If there are 4x16GB DIMMs , you need to populate the DIMMs in Slot#8&10 of each CPU .

The HPE memory polulation guideline is mentioned in the following document ;

https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docLocale=en_US&docId=emr_na-a00028122en_us

Hi,

alright thanks alot, but i have one more questions i have found this inforamtion about the memory controller in the CPU:

https://en.wikichip.org/wiki/intel/xeon_silver/4210

Under memory controller is the maximum bandwidth dispalyed. Which reads for me that if i use more RAM slots i get more bandwidth:

Or is there something im missing?

Single 17.88 GiB/s

Double 35.76 GiB/s

Quad 71.53 GiB/s

Hexa 107.3 GiB/s

Best reagrds

Nibbel

Hi Nibbel ,

Hi Nibbel ,

There is documents from HPE mentioned that if we use more RAM slots we will get more bandwidth:

General memory population rules and guidelines: are

Install DIMMs only if the corresponding processor is installed.

If only one processor is installed in a two-processor system, only half of the DIMM slots are available.

To maximize performance, it is recommended to balance the total memory capacity between all installed processors.

When two processors are installed, balance the DIMMs across the two processors.

White DIMM slots denote the first slot to be populated in a channel.

Mixing of DIMM types (UDIMM, RDIMM, and LRDIMM) is not supported

The maximum memory speed is a function of the memory type, memory configuration, and processor model.

The maximum memory capacity is a function of the number of DIMM slots on the platform, the largest DIMM capacity qualified on the platform, the number and model of installed processors qualified on the platform.To realize the performance memory capabilities listed in this document, HPE DDR4 SmartMemory is required.

Kindly refer the DL360 Gen10 Server Maintenance andService Guide ;

https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=emr_na-a00019132en_us
