Does UPS network configuration require USB?

I am trying to setup an HPE G2 R5000 UPS with the 1 Gb UPS Network Management Module.

I gave the MAC address to the LAN team so they could assign a static address via DHCP, but they don't see the MAC on the switch port. Does the Network Management Module have to be configured first by using the USB "AUX" port built-in to that module, along with the Power Protector software? Alternatively, is that USB "AUX" port on the module at least an optional way to configure the UPS?

The USB port on the UPS itself is useless for this.

The USB port on the card is a serial connection, but you need a special adapter.

I always use a LAN cable connected directly to PC to configure it.
