HPE Smart Storage Batteries provide backup power to Smart Array Cache and NVDIMMs in the event of a server power failure. The backup power is provided for up to 2 minutes, which allows data in volatile memory (DIMM) to be stored in non-volatile memory (flash). When the battery output is disabled, the smart array cache is also disabled.

You are able to create raid levels without the battery. There will be no effect on the server functions and data. Though if your server is serving as high data read/ write purposes (Eg: log server) it's better to fix the issue ASAP.

Please refer to the below links:

Procedure to follow for Installing/ replacing the Smart Storage Battery.

https://techlibrary.hpe.com/docs/iss/DL80_Gen9/setup_install/211842.htm

HPE MR Gen10 Plus Controller User Guide

https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=a00110297en_us&docLocale=en_US&page=GUID-6CF83970-CB51-4546-BA31-788900481A28.html

Hello!

We have a DL380G10 server and we ordered a Broadcom MR 416i-p disk controller for it, but forgot about the battery (either HPE 96W Smart Stg Li-ion Batt 145mm Kit or HPE Smart Hybrid Capacitor w/ 145mm Cbl)

Please tell me what are the risks of using the controller without a battery? Will the controller work at all and will it be possible to create raid levels?

Thank you all in advance!
