I have a Proliant Microserver with a E208i-p controller. I originally have 2 sata SSDs and 2 sata HDDs in place. I took out one of the HDDs and reconfigured this array for 1 drive. I just got this new HPE MO001600KYDMU which is a 1.6TB SAS SSD NVMe. I put this in the 4th slot but did not get recognized. It did not show up under Disk Utilities. I ran SSA and checked all the options. I took out the 3rd HDD and just put the SAS SSD in and still didn’t get detected. I understand that this E208i can accommodate mixed sata and sas drives. I have the latest 2023 SPP firmware upgraded. Is it possible that this SAS SSD is not supported in the BIOS? Any ideas?

Hello,

This is an NVMe drive and is not supported on an E208i-p controller. This controller only supports SAS or SATA. NVMe is not a supported technology.

Regards

My PM1735a 2.5" SFF SSD has a SAS interface. How is it different from any other SAS drive? It is not an NVMe that directly plugs into the PCIE bus. I don't understand.
Is there anyway to make this work?

Apparently this PM1735a SFF NVMe SSD has an U.3 interface which is compatibile to PCIe 4.0. Even though it has an identical SAS connector, it is not SAS compatible. It only fits on a Premium HPE server backplane, not a standard backplane like what the E208i controller offers. The only way for me to use this expensive drive is through an U.3 to PCIe adapter which is available on Amazon. Just learned about U.2 and U.3 interfaces today.
