@bwood Thanks for the quick reply. HPE support was also quick and straight forward this time, replacement motherboard is on its way. To remove power completely I've to send someone from external on-site service to the server. If it's already clear that chances are high that a part has to be replaced, I rather skip this step.

Hi,

Glad I stumbled on this thread, thought I was missing something obvious. Every day at 13:45 EDT, our fans also ramp up for a few seconds before going down.

Event in log:

"The iLO health monitoring status of the device / adapter located in Slot 255 is not responsive"

Recommended Action: "Do one or more of the following: 1.Disable the MCTP and wait for 2 minutes. If the issue still persists contact support"

We're on iLO 5, v2.55, ProLiant DL380 Gen10

I looked up what a MCTP was, how to disable it, followed the directions here:

https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=emr_na-a00102190en_us

But today (24 horus later), the fans ramped up again.

I have this issue every 15mn30s on a DL380 Gen10plus, with iLO5 v2.95.

And every time this event fires, the OS (Linux) experiences a temporary kernel freeze of all cores during ~800ms.

Please how could we investigate ? What device is on slot 255 ?

This has been sporadically occurring on servers I support for a couple of years now whilst working for 2 different companies - have HPE EVER sorted what is causing it - seems not if still prevelant now!

Hi Bob,

Yes, this is a serious worry for us, and because of this we're considering switching over to competitors for all our servers.

Indeed, while the issue could (arguably) be dismissed before as "false alarm - please ignore", the 800ms freeze of the OS is not something that can be tolerated in production.
