Reset access password for KVM (3346044-B21)

Hi everybody!
After shutdowning and unplugging the power cable on the KVM and then power it on again the following message displayed on the RKM screen "Free". When I press on the "Print screen " key, I get the following message which appears on the screen: "Type the password required to gain access to OSD".
I'm very suprise to see this message because I have never configured a password on this machine.

- Please how can I remove or reset this password?
- How to get the default password?

Zou can try establishing a serial connection to the KVM Switch:
From Start/ program/ assessories/ communications then select HyperTerminal.

Enter name , click ok then select proper COM port where serial cable from HP IP console Switch is conected.

Also make sure the following settings as follow:

Bits Per second: 9600
Data bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop bits: 1
Flow control: None

Or Call HP Suppor:

1. Press any key on the keyboard, or move the mouse. The Authorize dialog box appears.
2. Click Forgot Password. A dialog box appears with an HP technical support phone number (1-
800-474-6836), a 16-bit key, and the EID number of the console switch.
3. Call the HP technical support phone number. Give the service person your 16-bit key and EID
number of the console switch. A one-time unlock code, which is specific to your console switch, is
given to you.
4. Enter the one-time unlock code in the field.
5. Click OK. Your previous console switch password is deleted.

Hi,

one more problem with 336044-B21, it is displaying the servers connected to it, but not showing anything when I select any server.

Please tell me what commands to use after connecting the serial port to a pc and using hyperterminal?

Any chance I can get a password reset as well on a EO1010 (MPN: 520-274-016)? I've tried the phone support, but no luck, they can't find the MPN SN or model # in their system, but yes it is HP branded and I have several. Obviously if the serial console didn't have a password I wouldn't need a reset.

Recovering a lost console switch serial management password

1. Establish a terminal session, and press the Enter key. You are prompted to enter the console switch
serial management password.
2. Enter HELP. A 16-bit key and the EID number of the console switch appear.
3. Call the HP technical support phone number (1-800-474-6836). Give the service person your 16-bit
key and EID number of the console switch. A one-time password, which is specific to your console
switch, is given to you.
4. Enter the one-time password. Your previous console switch serial management password is deleted.

I have the same switch as you...

HP Series EO1010 (HP IP KVM Console (3x1x16))

Spares 286599-001

MPN: 520-274-016 Rev B

Serial Console and OSD passwords were lost...

Here is where I am at...

This switch is a re-branded Avocent KVM switch...

It is similar to the Dell 2162-DS KVM switch...

On a complete hunch... I downloaded a (Dell/Avocent) serial password override utility at the following link

Using the utility requires you to be connected to the console's management port (serial port).

The password override utility discovers the switch over the serial cable and returns a key that is used to override the serial console password. (By the way, you can't have Putty open at the same time you are trying to run the utility).

You need to provide the key to HP Support... They utilize the key and a product number to request a generated override password from Avocent. HP Support used the Spares number to come up with a product number.

When you get the override password from HP, you simply enter the password into the password override utility which will override the existing password and restart the console.

When the console restarts the serial console password protection will be removed allowing you to access the console's configuration menu.

From there... Menu option 5 is Restore Factory Defaults.

Unfortunately... that option did not reset the OSD password (on-screen display password, sometimes referred to as the OSCAR or console password).

I will re-post if I come up with a solution for the OSD password reset.

I can access the console switch via serial cable to manage basic configuration and access via network (TCP-IP) using the HP IP Console Viewer software (using ver 4.1)... just not sitting in the server room at the console itself (...yet).

I am after a password reset code, i have called HP (UK) but was told they could not give me a reset code, and know nothing about it!

Can anyone help?
