I've got a problem with dynamic ip addresses. I've got a pc with a static ip which i use to access a vpn. Whenever i use my machine to dial up to the internet, the ip of my machine changes. This disconnects me from the vpn. I could modify my entry in the host file, but i dont want to do that every time i connect to the intnet. Is there a way to have only my web browser use the new IP address ?

The problem seems to be that in your case you need a fixed Ip address for the VPN and a logical (dynamic) ip address.

I don't know if it will apply to you, but what we have been able to do with name resolution problem is to use DHCP for the IP and specify DNS for both the company and the ISP.

Hi Siva,

Whenever you connect to internet through dial-up, your default gateway changes.

All you need to do is to add a permanent static entry for the VPN connection. For eg, if your current gateway is 192.168.100.1/24, and the network address of the remote network (where you get connectde via VPN) is 192.168.200.0/24, then you need to create a static route like:
route add 192.168.200.0 mask 255.255.255.0 192.168.100.1 -p
