Hi ,

Does HP NAS products support WORM (write once read many)... Say .. once a user has written a file on to a share he can not modiy the same file again (can make changes on a copy of the file).

Hope iam making some sense.

Yes HP has products that support WORM (Write Once, Read Multiple).

Well, the traditional HP NAS products do not offer WORM capabilities. What you are looking for is kind of archiving solution!
The RISS system supports WORM. Go here and check the HP StorageWorks Reference Information Storage System (RISS)

Hi Pater ,

Yeh .. basically i want our customer to save their EOD data on this server ... but once saved they should not be able to delete it (they can edit the document provided they create a copy of the document and make changes on the copy ).. the original should be available for administrators review (and other small need)

Does RISS fit my requirement? I was reading the QS but couldnt understand much.

The RISS is combined HW/SW based on a grid architecture to provide fast and secure access to archives.
It is a perfectly fit for email and document archives.
Emails and files get keyword indexed which allows very fast search and retrieval. The following types are supported:
Document type supported:
MS Word (.doc)
MS PowerPoint (.ppt)
MS Excel (.xls)
MS Access (various file extensions)
MS Outlooks personal folder (.pst)
Adobe Public Distribution Format (.pdf)
Rich text format (.rtf)
Outlook encapsulated .rtf (TNEF)
Hypertext Markup Language (.html)
Text files (.txt)
ASCII files (.asc)

Other files can also be archived but not keyword indexed.

The original files cannot be altered but altered files can be saved under a new name.

Archived files can be deleted by the administrator manually or per definition (like age, user etc)

If you need a lower cost solution I would look for software solutions like iXOS.
