DR Testing

I've got 2 MA8000 subsystems with HSG80 controllers and DRM setup between the 2. I'd like to test my DR i.e failover to the recovery site and let people login to run some reports to see if the 2 sites are in sinc. No changes will be made to the recovery site. What I'd like to know is whether there is a way of failing back to the live site without copying data from the recovery site since nothing would have changed.

Take a backup of the DR system site before opening the system to the user.

Once the testing is over, restore from the backup.

Hi Denzo,

do you have a LUN for write history logging available on both sites?
If so, you can use the Short Planned Site Failover with Fast Failback procedure documented in the Failover/Failback guide for DRM.

After you failover to the 2nd site, you set your association sets to use the log unit. Since little or no data will have changed when you want to failback, the mini-merge won't take very long. When that's finished you can failback to the 1st site.

You need association sets and write history logging for this to be possible.

Denzo,

once you have failed over to the target site and the hosts mounted those disk drives it means that data has been changed and initiator and target have gone out of sync!

You can do a fast sync through write log as Stephen has suggested or do a full sync from the initiator site which will overwrite any changes made from the test.

by default - there are no scripts!

Most DRM configurations I have seen are unique and need individual instructions and 'scripts'. You need to understand the state of your configuration to decide whether you can run a 'script' (which one) or whether you have to fix things manually.
