Hi,

Im having trouble installing OS on my blade. Anybody has any idea?

Hardware Details:
EVA 3000 with HSV 100 controllers
Blade: BL20p G4 connected to EVA with QLA2312 Fiber cards
OS: Win 2003 SP1

At installation start I am using F6 option, installing the latest drivers available from HP site.

After choosing on which drive to install the OS I get this error.(see attachment)

Rgds,
Albert
The LUN you are presenting obviously has a LUN number other than 0.
Change it to 0 from Command View EVA (Vdisk properties)

Then it should work.

Cheers
Peter

Albert:

You should not need to load any drivers at install time. WIndows 2003 with SP1 supports qlogic hba's from the get go. I have installed several systems without the need to load drivers.

Check to make sure you are only presenting 1 path to your storage during the installation. The easiest way to do this is to just zone the HBA and 1 port from the manageing controller for the boot disk.

On the EVA, the Command Console uses Lun 0. I have set up windows on lun 1 without any issues MANY times. The issue is probably NOT that the virtual disk is not presented as LUN 0 (sorry Peter, just some facts from the field) ;o)

Steven

LUN address 0 is used by the Storage Array Controller Device. I am afraid that you cannot overlay it with a vdisk.

I know that a colleague has installed a blade that boots from LUN 1 of an EVA4000, but I did not watch all details.

It is important that you provide only one path during the installation and it must be an active path to the vdisk.

Thanks a lot for your response guys.
Just to mention that I have had experience implementing 30+ BFS installations with different blades like 20/5's(G2 & G3), 30/5's.
But this is my first bl20pG4 installation.

Peter: Command view is the first place I checked, Infact I assign LUNS manually. There is also no way you can present LUN 0.

Steven: I have in the past used only a Win2003SP1 to install OS. But thinking this being a G4 I would need a newer driver than the one on the OS cd.
I also always have only presented one path, infact this installation is a singel path installation. (I know its not recommended but what customer wants customer gets) :)

Any more ideas are welcome.

Albert

Thnx for documents Sameer, but I already have them. As I have mentioned in my previous post I do have experience with BFS. And also the environment I am doing this installation in, most of the servers are BFS servers.

What I didnt mention in my first post was that I can see LUN paths from FC BIOS. BUt still installation doesnt go past the choosing drive to install OS on stage.

Albert

I just ran thro the below document and thought should come in handy for you. In Microsoft Windows dependencies it says it requires the lun id to be 0. ( I wondered if there is a way to configure the lun id from the host end after the lun is presented to the host)

Also have a look at appendix B for configuring the hba for sanboot. i guess you already have followed that.

http://www.qlogic.com/documents/datasheets/knowledge_data/whitepapers/boot_from_SAN_pt1.pdf#search=%22san%20boot%20OS%20%22

I did manage to crack my issue.

For some reason because I had the same lun sizes on the eva as other boot from san server I saw issues, so I recreated my bfs lun at 10gb and was then successful in installing to the bfs lun.

If you haven't already done so try this.

regards
Wade Fleet
HP
