In the past I did notice performance differnces in Dts LUN's or the one's created by MSA1500.
Believe it came due to the used RAID levels and not all controllers do use the same default stripe sizes.

Hello,

I yesterday tried to move a 4 * 300Gb disk RAID-5 array (SCSI) from a DL380 (smart Array 6i) to my SAN (MSA1500cs, with active/active firmware).

So, I stop the DL380, remove the disk and add the disk (respecting their orders) into the disk enclosure (SAN on).
When I connected to the ACU, the array has not recognized the Array, but has only seen 4 disks.

As I did not have time to investigate, I actually recreate an array, and start restore from tape (I add a off-line backup taken jsut before the operation to cover this specific issue, so just took longer..). But I'm wondering what I've done wrong (Unless to having powered off the MSA before adding the disk was enough ?) for reference..

thanks,
Chris

Chris,

Are both the F/W's up to date, both the MSA1500 & SmartArray controller ?

The following is a guide for the MSA1000 (can't find an equivalent for the 1500), may be useful to you ?

ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/products/storageworks/msa1000/Linux_DtS_Migrations.pdf

Jeff

You must power off the MSA before moving array.
This also applied to any smart array controller: if you adding disks online, SA will see them as separate disks.
Look also to DtS migration guide:
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/products/storageworks/msa1000/NT_Win2K_DtS_Migrations.pdf
