The Data Protector imlemetation in Oracle is based on RMAn, so yes, RMAN is needed.

DP does not care if you are using a filesystem or raw disks underneath Oracl!

The only limitation I am aware of is the following:

You cannot restore SAP R/3 tablespaces that are located on raw partitions using the Data Protector GUI. Instead, use SAP R/3 restore
tools (for example, brrestore).

See the following manuals for intgeration help
DP 6:
HP OpenView Storage Data Protector Integration Guide for Oracle SAP
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00751982/c00751982.pdf

HP OpenView Storage Data Protector Zero Downtime Backup Integration Guide for Oracle
SAP R/3 Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00752927/c00752927.pdf

More manuals and support matrices http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DocumentIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=101&prodClassId=-1&contentType=SupportManual&docIndexId=179911&prodTypeId=18964&prodSeriesId=3241176

DP5.5
HP OpenView Storage Data Protector Integration Guide for Oracle SAP
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00664248/c00664248.pdf

HP StorageWorks Oracle Zero Downtime Backup Solution Using the XP Disk Array with XP External Storage and Data Protector on HP-UX
implementation guide
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00629571/c00629571.pdf

more manuals and support matrices
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DocumentIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=101&prodClassId=-1&contentType=SupportManual&docIndexId=179911&prodTypeId=18964&prodSeriesId=3188924

Cheers
XP-Pete
