Andrew,

I am not sure one bad experience from someone else should deter you from using or at least trying Device Mapper. I have not seen bad performance with it.

As was said, you can also use the Qlogic failover driver.

You can find information at the links below for the Qlogic driver for the Device Mapper solution and the HP Device Mapper Enablement Kit and its documentation in the links below. The documentation includes the device entry for the EVA4000 in the multipath.conf file.

Qlogic driver:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=329290&prodSeriesId=1844104&swItem=co-54964-1&prodNameId=1844105&swEnvOID=2027&swLang=8&taskId=135&mode=3

HP Device Mapper Enablement Kit:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=18964&prodSeriesId=1814938&swItem=co-58129-1&mode=3

Best regards,
Bret

Hi Andrew
We used multipath daemon on RH linux but we found after that daemon uses too much cpu time. After that we used native hba multipathing.
What's your FC HBA? We used qlogic HBAs for our implementation.
Regards

yes, we use qlogic too (qla2xxx) HBA.
So you advice to use HP multipath software and not multipath service of RedHat ?

thanks

Yes I'm recommending ql driver multipathing. We deal with serious performance problems when we tried to use multipath through linux device mapper.
With ql driver we don't have so much devices and layers in linux. We have better performance and simplicity with driver solution.
Best regards
michal
