Hi,

Thank you for your opinion.

I know that changing g-port lock parameter is the workaround. To fix the problem, I need to know about the root cause. however, at this momont, there is no way to find it without FC analyzer.
Did you have same experience?
If true, please tell me the story

Hi Mark,

Thank you for reply.
I saw the page42 in the linked document and it showed that if is using the fabric os version of v5.2.1, the symptom would be similar to my issue however I'm using the v6.1.0c fabric os(brocade48000).the symptom is that i can't see the disk device which is connected to the specific fc port after reboot. Fortunately, After i issued the ioscan -fnCdisk, I can see that disk devices. HPUX o/s version is 11iv3
Any clue?

Best regards

Sumin

hi,

i did'nt think that was the default setting , if you have no reason to lock it then normally you would let it auto negotiate. try that and see whether you still have the issue.

hope this helps.

Hello Sumin,
When a port initialise in Brocade ,

1) initially it will be U port.
2) Then if the device connected is loop
device it will turn as FL port.
3) If the device connected is not loop
device , then port will transition to G
port
4) Once the Gport came it will check
whether device attached is a F
(fabric) / Or E (another switch ) and
accordingly it will change it.

Basically port locked as Gport never come to FL port. it can turn either to F OR E port not FL.

Nothing will happen if you disable it , there will be delay for initilisation since it has to check for chance to have loop device connected to the port.

Thank you for reply.

Now i'm fully understand what the g-port lock meant. And there was problem in hpux after reboot in conjunction with v5.2.x .
but I'm using the FOS of v6.1.0c and after reboot the server(hpux 11.31), One of the fc port didn't get the disk device(EMC DMX4-4500), The interim workaround is to issue ioscan -fnCdisk command. this enable me to see the disk device. Several months ago, I found the document for g-port lock and then i turned it off in Server-side san port, I could see the disk device even though i rebooted several times.
Anyone had a same experience?
I think this might be happened in hpux 11iv2 with same san configuration

Best regards

Sumin

Normally this kind of issues should be resolved by FC card driver & firmware. Including EFI . Try by dooing the same incase if its not upto date.

Some adapters/device drivers will try to find out the topology (loop/fabric). The traditional setup is to try loop first.

A locked G_Port will not allow a loop login so that the software configures for Fabric. I think that is a 'workaround' and agree with Dileep.. that the correct way is to configure the adapter/device driver.
