Hi,

Can anyone point me in the right direct of some documentation giving a detailed description of what the 'Operating System' field in the Host section does in HP Command View EVA?

I am aware it is to do with masking SCSI requests though was wanting a little more detail if possible.

Also, does anyone know if it is ok to change the Operating System field type for the Host(eg: from Microsoft Windows to VMware) whilst the server is still connected to the LUN or should it be powered down first?

Any information much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Simon
As far as I can tell, there has never been any information made available outside engineering. The custom setting allows you to choose single bits, but they are not documented - you get told the value to set in some non-standard situations and that's it.

Years ago during the Compaq certifications I've tried to get some more information, but wasn't successful.

I don't want to accuse anybody, but maybe the information is withhold to prevent people from playing around and then cause problems in the field. We all know those 'Windows Experts who tune their systems to death', don't we?

I would at least reboot the server after the change was made - while I have never heard whether it has no negative effects, I want to 'better be safe than sorry'.

Should you have any LUNs presented and you are changing the host mode in Command View, you should un-present and re-present the LUNs; otherwise only newly presented LUNs will have the characteristic of the changed host mode.
