Okay. Understood. I guess, I should alter my question a little bit.

Why do I need "qtree", and what does "qtree" represent in the real world?

I have NetApp FAS storage system, and more often I heard of the term qtree, but could not get a clear understanding on what qtree really is. I can understand Volume, but not qtree. Could anybody please explain that to me?

Apprecit your response very much!

Hi,
As I know a qtree is a subvolume that has its own quotas and permissions. It is a subset directory under the root of the volume that contains it.
>Why do I need "qtree", and what does "qtree" represent in the real world?
Extrapolating, Qtree is like a "FS" for nas. You need it to partition you volume like the fs on the vg.
Qtrees are created to manage and partition the data on the volume and to set quotas uses.

If I simplify, the NAS, you could create volume, qtree and snapshot.
