topic Long Haul Data Replication over IP for EVA5000 in HPE EVA Storage

I am looking into IP data replication options for an EVA5000 that needs to go more than 1100 miles. One HP engineer I talked with said he would only use CASA for such long IP data replication and to NOT use the new continuous access (CA) feature of the EVA5000 v3.0 firmware.

Do other engineers agree? If so, what makes the native CA so 'bad' for long haul IP replication?

Derek:

Can you be a bit more specific, and possibly use less Acronyms. I know of at least 5 different uses of "IP" within my company alone.

Thanks

Mike Naime

You might want to check out this technical paper, as it has some info on IP replication

ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/products/storageworks/techdoc/san/AA-RU5CB-TE.pdf

There is also some other info here that you may find useful

http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storage/software/conaccesseva/qa.html

You might also want to check out the Performance Calculator here:

http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storage/software/conaccesseva/relatedinfo.html

Thanks,
Doug

I would look into using a FC/IP gateway such as SAN Valley SL1000 or possibly CNT. The issue with 1100 miles is the latency for a round trip.. If your application(s) can tolerate it, this is the way to go. The speed of the IP links connecting the two sites are important as well..
