Hello,
Is there any way the system alerts me when a physical disk fails?
I know about the leds and without running any utility. I'm talking about desktop alerts or e-mail alerts.

So I guess you will have to tell us:
What system are you talking about?

In the meantime: Look at SNMP traps.

I have a AP788A (X1600 Storageworks) running Windows Storage Server 2008 x64.
