My guess is that Tom has an environment where at least one shared VMFS (VMware File System) with heavy meta data updates is used.

VMFS uses a SCSI reserve unit to allow meta data updates without a distributed lock manager. It's nothing what you would see on other operating systems.

Some fixes for VMware ESX users. There was a customer advisory, but I don't have the link handy right now.

We only experienced the bug during the process of copying multiple ESX EVA Vdisks from one EVA array to another. We have used ESX with EVA under normal load without problems for over a year.

FYI - I've attached the VCS 3.028 announcement advisory. There's more in it than just the VMware related bugfix and CV 4.1 is required. CV 4.1 is now available for download via ITRC if you have a linked support agreeement.

This issue can also effect a single EVA. We were one of the pioneers who experienced the problem - on a single EVA 5000.
