While I am aware that it is not advisable to mix both LUN and Tape Devices in the same fabric zone, I have been asked to do so on a temporary basis for direct-to-disk testing.

The environment is EVA5000 (VCS 3.028), SW 2/16 switches, Windows 2003 server, NSR M2402, and BrightStor 11.5 SP3.

What errors or events should I be looking/monitoring for that show why this is
a bad configuration?

What is the best way to highlight SCSI bus resets and contention events?

Thanks in advance,

chris

Chris, When I have gotten lazy and placed multiple NRS's in a single zone I have seen the Encoder Out errors (Brocade) go through the roof. Split the NSR's into seperate zones - problem gone.

I realize this doesnt exactly answer your config, but perhaps it will help.

In the real world you might see the backup job fail as a reset causes an interruption in the bus. I am not sure you would see this in a lab environment without lots of testing.
