Command View 8 with multiple arrays

Hi Folks,

We have the following setup:

- EVA4400 - XCS09004000 & Unlimited CV license
- EVA4000 - XCS6100 & 4TB CV license
- SAN Switches with FOS v6.2.0d

Currently the EVA4400 is managed by Command View v8.0.2. We want to manage BOTH EVAs with the same Command View. We have checked into the Command View 8 release notes, and our XCS versions seem to be supported.

Our main concern is, what would happen with licensing? Do we need to back-up or regenerate our licenses?

Any insight will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance,

What is your *other* CV version? What verson will "survive" at your site?

Backup is *always* a good idea, regenerate will not be necessary.

This depends upon the version of CV that is currently running for the EVA4000. Since it is a 4000, your CV is likely to be CV6 or earlier. If so, then you will need to convert your licenses for the 4000 to CV7+ licenses. Once you do that, you can use the CV8.0.2 box to manage both arrays.

Do we need to back-up or regenerate our licenses?

It is always good to have a backup of your licenses. Generallty speaking, licenses do not get re-generated, though you CAN look them up if you originally generated them.

With this in mind, you should have received a package from HP about upgrading your EVA licenses to cv7+ and your Command View to 7 (and at some point 8). IF you already completed this, then you are all set. Change the zoning so that the CV8 box can see the 4000, take controll of the EVA and get rid of your older CV server. Perhaps you can redeploy it as a Secondary CV server and/or an IRS server.

- Other CV is v6, surviving version will be v8.

- Future upgrade to v9 is of course imminent, but will be easier with just one console, we think.

It was a good idea to ask, because my understanding was CV 8.something vs. 8.0.2.

You need new licenses, without you cannot manage your older EVA with this new CV version.

You should ask HP for it.

Do you have a support agreement? You should.

If so, then you should have received your notification for upgrading to CV7+. If you didn't, there is a procedure to "release" the package so that you get it.

You have an itrc profile...
Link your SAID to your profle.
Go to the Software Update Manager.
Click "Request Updates".
Select the appropiate agreements.
Uunder "how would you like to view the updates" click "by release" and click next.
Find the "Command View EVA v7.0 June 2007" entry and click next.
Review the delivery address and submit.

This should release a new order number for the licenses you are entitled to which you can then use at webware.hp.com to retrieve you CV7+ licenses.
