Hi ,

We have eva6400 in our setup which is accessed by around 2 db servers and 6 app servers.

db server config : 12 database...size around 4 db of 200gb , 8db of 50gb ( 8core , 64 GB RAM )

app server config : 4 core 16 gb RAM each.

We run BC at around 9pm everyday for 15 databases..in an interval of 5 min.

At that moment our whole EVA chokes the disk utilization is 100% for around 3 hrs..

Can smethng be done to increase the speed of levelling of the disks .

We have only one diskgroup which contains 300gb HDD ( 98 qty )

Please suggest.

Can mirrorclone help us in this situation.

Our backup strategy is we take entire hot backup by BC by putting db in backup mode.( begin n end )

two lebels before our eod batch processing and after. We run BC 2 times

For ex one at 9pm and other at 3am

Please suggest.

In order to increase the speed of leveling you should have enough free space in your DG. Minimum 5 GB.

In general terms please find the following,

Usable capacity of the EVA = ((Total Capacity - (Metadata+Protection Level+Space required for leveling ideal 5GB))

If you can share the "Controller COnfiguration Dump" and let me know the firmware of the controller, then I will try to suggest you further.

But leveling is not used when you are utilizing the EVA heavily.
Leveling is when data is spread equally over all disks (not based on how much it's read/written).

This means it's generally used when adding/removing a disk.

Do you have to run BC at the same time for all databases? Maybe if you increase the interval?

"2) A MirrorClone has the ability to maintain its relationship with the source volume which allows it the ability to update quickly by only copying the changed data."

If you keep a mirrorclone active during the day you may have less performance during the day. But when it's time for backup your EVA shouldn't choke because all the work has already been done.
