Hi

You must do an online replacement even if you bring systems down because you need the new controller to join the existing one. This is very important.

Regards

I have an EVA 4400 with 953400 firmware. I need to have one of the controllers replaced. What will happen when the new controller is replaced with a newer version of firmware? What is the current version of XCS for the 4400?

Thanks,

Current version of the XCS can be found on http://software.hp.com - search for XCS.

You'll also find details in HP SPOCK.

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DocumentIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&contentType=SupportManual&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=3664763

and "HP StorageWorks Controller Enclosure 4Gb Array Controller Replacement Instructions (631505-001, August 2010)" has details about how you should replace the controller. Unfortunately it doesn't explicitly say what will happen. I presume the replacement controller will be downgraded to the same XCS as the one that is installed.

Hi

You will of coarse do an online replacement this means the new controller will be downgrade or upgraded to the version of the existing controller

Regards

Online replacement is recommended. However, because of the two-controllor-in-one-enclosure design , you may get some strange problems. So you'd better request a repair downtime.
