Hi Torsten,

First of all thanks for your quick response.

Indeed I just want storage for a single server. The problem is we have an agreement with HP and we don't have this kind of products in the catalogue. The only similar thing I found is P2000. Becuase of this I choose the disk enclosure option without any controller inside but with I/O option but there is nothing related with this in the specs :-(

Hi guys,

I think this is an easy question. I'm buying a new dl160 server and I want to add a "little" SAN infrastructure (it's for a little office) I'm thinking in a HP P2000 Dual I/O LFF Drive Enclosure.

My question is, can I manage this enclosure from the server controller (HP Smart Array P822/2GB FBWC 2-ports Int/4-ports Ext SAS Controller) or may I add a controller to the enclosure?

Many thanks for your help.

Read the P2000 G3 quickspecs.

There are always controllers inside, either FC, SAS, iscsi or combinations. You manage the array from the web interface or CLI.

If you just want to have storage for a single server, look for disk enclosures like D2700 etc ...

Here you can see the available options for P2000:

http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13551_div/13551_div.HTML

It is always a "standalone" disk array.

Using the array you can connect more servers later, if needed.

Here is the D2000 enclosure:

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13404_div/13404_div.html

Ok,

So I have to find a disk enclosure in my catalogue which supports direct attach storage (similar to D2000) and it is compatible with the server controller because P2000 disk enclosure won't work directly attached, right?

Unfortunatly I can't buy a P2000 smart array with a SAS controller included because of the budget.
