topic EVA 8100 not using all data paths in HPE EVA Storage

EVA 8100 XCS 6.240, two controllers, four FC paths per controller. On each controller, two of the FC paths are dedicated to CA replication.

That leaves two FC paths per controller for host IO. A few days ago the EVA suddenly decided to stop sending data along one of those paths to controller A. CommandView EVA says everything is fine. The SAN switches (brocade 8/80) say everything is fine so I can't find a hardware failure.

When this occurred, some of our VMWare ESX hosts complained and the EVA had a bunch of entries in the log about moving LUN ownership to controller B. Now I can set a LUN to be managed by A but data will only be sent along one path to controller A (and both paths to controller B have normal traffic).

Any ideas? Yes, I know there is a firmware update and that's in the plan to be done but I'm hoping for some insight as to what's going on.

I'm sure this is not array firmware related. There is probably something wrong with the server-switch-array connection or the controller hardware.

Well yesterday the EVA showed up as "uninitialized" in CVEVA for a while and then came back to normal. Checked the logs and it said that the controllers had changed which was master. Latency was a little high despite having low IO levels. Then about 5 hours later everything went back to normal and data is going across all paths now.

<shrug>
