I am receiving the following error message with a SAN we just purchased (EMA12000 not new just new to us)...

I've tried shutting down the controllers, then restarting them. I've already typed out SHOW THIS_CONTROLLER

Still giving same message. Is the cache module bad or am I overlooking something. Actual error message below.

"This controller has an invalid cache module
Write-back caching is disabled"

"Invalid cache -- CLI command set reduced. Type SHOW THIS_CONTROLLER. Please-
see product documentation to determine corrective action"
Hi,

this error message is normal if you're configuring a new system, or if the previous configuration was wiped. If you're configuring this system from scratch, type
CLEAR THIS INVALID_CACHE DESTROY_UNFLUSHED_DATA
(another option is NODESTROY_UNFLUSHED_DATA, but if it's a new config, then you don't need any data in the cache)
You might need to plug into the 2nd controller and run the same command.
Then you can start configuring the EMA12000 properly.

Regards,
Stephen

Stephen is correct. I have seen that error plenty of times during failed controller replacements. :-)

After clearing the error, you should be able to get the controllers back to a redundant state. For me, this was issuing the
"SET MULTIBUS COPY = THIS" command. This would take the controllers back to the multi-bus failover mode. It would re-boot both controllers during that process.

Mike Naime

You may indeed have the wrong cache module. I ran into a similar problem and the issue was the module serial number was older and not supported in my M2200. I contacted HP services they sent me a new module and I was good to go.

It could be the module was taken off an older ESA12000 or something as the modules are identical.
