Jason:

Leveling will not stop you from creating snapshots.

We have 4 2C18D EVA5000's that have daily snapshot creations. Even when we have disk groups that are leveling for several days, it does not prevent us from creating and using the snapshots.

Note: we are using SSSU scripts to create and use the snapshots.

Mike Naime

Is there a way to increase the leveling time on an EVA5000. We are having a problem with scheduled BC jobs causing the leveling process to restart over again after repalceing failed hard drives. The problem exists with a 2c8d with 2 disk groups of 146 GB drives.

I would suggest reading the VCS 3.014 release notes and upgrade to that version.

I cannot find anything in the release notes (T3030-98301) about leveling. There is an entry called "Avoiding slow creation of multiple related snapshots", but I can not find the word 'leveling'.

Jason, what does the problem with BC jobs look like?

The Business copy jobs run fine. However, when the snapshots are created or deleted it restarts the leveling process that started when I added new drives to the disk group. This would not normally be a problem; however, it is taking about 2 days for the disk group to relevel itself to the new drives. Since we use the snaps to do our backups to tape, we are not able to complete backups until the leveling process completes.
