We have been running the config below, with little or no SAN issues. Until last week when some updates were applied [see below].

Environment:
------------
DL580 G3 with ACU 7.15.19.0 & Server and storage agents 7.10.0.0.
MSA1000 with v4.24 B272
Integrated san switch 2/8
Windows Adv Server 2000 sp4
Compaq KGPsa-xx HBAs (with Ajunct Driver) with 5.4.82a9 driver

Problem:
--------
Now the Windows Event log reports:
Source: Storage Agents
Event: 1151

External Array Controller Status Change. The external controller in I/O slot 2 of array "" has a new status of 4.
(Controller status values: 1=other, 2=ok, 3=failed, 4=offline, 5=redundantPathOffline)
[SNMP TRAP: 16020 in CPQFCA.MIB]

I have every reason to believe the SAN controller redundancy is working, based on:-

The SAN program load is clean.
The controllers have a â heartbeatâ light - this is 'on'
When the SAN boots is reports that it is enabling redundancy
There is no other errors reported
I have physically removed the controllers and tested it.

Question:
---------

If I disable the HP Insight Management "Fibre Array Information" Agent, I believe this will get rid of the message- but is this a spurious message or an indicator of something else?

Hp proliant Updates applied:

cp004177
HP ProLiant Array Configuration Utility for Windows Version 7.15.19.0

cp004183
HP ProLiant PCI Hot Plug Controller Driver for Windows 2000/Server 2003 Version 6.3.2.1
cp004187
HP StorageWorks Fibre Channel Array Notification Driver for Windows 2000/Server 2003 Version 5.24.0.32

cp004179
HP ProLiant Smart Array 5x and 6x Controller Driver for Windows 2000/Server 2003 Version 5.60.0.32

cp004465
HP ProLiant NC10xx/NC67xx/NC77xx Gigabit Ethernet NIC Driver for Windows 2000 Version 7.40.0.0

cp004193
HP ProLiant iLO Advanced and Enhanced System Management Controller Driver for Windows 2000 Version 5.33.2195.0

cp004188
HP Insight Management Agents for Windows 2000/Server 2003 Version 7.10.0.0

cp004186
HP ProLiant Integrated Management Log Viewer for Windows 2000/Server 2003 Version 5.0.

hy.

the HBA driver is out of date and not supported. see the MSA1000 W2k/32 Connectivity Stream attached.

first, update the HBA driver and check all other driver/firmware revisions (HBA, MSA Controller, FC Switch).

regards,
matthias
Brian,

I like to see what you can get out of it as well. I do not configuration like you but some what a smaller scale.
Here what I have

DL360 G2 with FCA2101 and MSA1000 with 2x 18GB, using RAID-1. So I use SmartStart 6.40 to deploy Windows 2003 Enterprise Server

1. Windows 2003 Enterprise Server
2. Installed all the patches from HP for their hardware and drivers (Ver 7.10)
3. Installed all the patches from Microsoft
4. Installed OpenView Virtual Replicator 4.0. Upon finishing it the system required to restart. So I did. Then when boot the system kept staying on reboot mode. Acctually it destroys my system disk.

The weird part is that I have it worked once with DL360 G2 (but I was not sure what Windows patches I have on that box. And I had that box crashed due.)

IF you have that worked with your environment would you mind to share some insight success of your installation?
1. What is the patch version of Windows 2003 had you applied?
2. What is the driver version of your MSA1000

Your input is greatly appreciated,
