There is a 'Downgrade' option in ACS v8.7
which allows the use of ACS v8.6. What does this option do exactly ?

Leslie,
once you have upgraded to a newer version, you cannot easily downgrade by sticking in the old firmware cards.

The downgrade program reformats the controllers internal NVRAM data structures to the previous version's format.
