Laurence,

Q Depth settings varies from one array to another and depends really on the capability of the array controllers and the number of LUNs expected to be deployed.

Ask your array vendor what should be the proper settings. For mixed array SANS (ie. a mix of EMC, HDS, XP, EVA) - you'll have to ensure each array's controller will not be swamped - or find an acceptable common denominator - not only for Q depth but for other settings related to IO...

Can anyone explain or recommend a white paper that explains what the queue depth is in relation to a SAN port and the no. of LUNs attached to it.
- how to calculate the optimum configuration.
- performance based issues.

thanks

Does anyone know the typical queue depth for Windows Server 2003 using the STORport driver with Emulex HBAs? I'm thinking it can have 256, but I'm not sure....

What's the per port queue depth for the XP12000? Is it still 1024 like the older XPs?
