Hi guys,

I have two Switches:

Brocade 3900 (2 Gbps)
Zoning defined
Kernel: 2.4.19
Fabric OS: v4.1.1
BootProm: 3.2.4

Compaq StorageWorks San Switch 8 (1Gbps)
No zoning configured
Kernel: 5.4
Fabric OS: v2.6.0c

I want to join them via ISL. Can there be any compatability issue in using ISL ???

And most important: Brocade documentation says "when a new switch is added to the fabric via ISL, zoning information of both switches is merged"

How will this ISL joining effect the Zoning information on brocade & Compaq switch ???

Would highly appreciate some help in this case.

Regards
TechNoCore

Config for both switches is attached.

Hi,

it should be possible, since the Compaq switch is also from Brocade. A couple of hints:

There are 2 paramters on the 1Gbit switch you need to set in a telnet session. You should disable the switch (switchdisable) and run configure to change the fabric parameters. Change the Domain ID to 2 and fabric.ops.mode.pidFormat to 1.
Don't change anything else (press enter for all other paramters to leave them unchanged).
Then connect the cable for the ISL and run switchenable. The 1Gbit switch should come up as a "Subordinate" switch.

Also, when you merge the two switches, the one without zoning will "download" the zoning config from the one with zoning. Any devices which are not in any zone will not be able to access any other devices. So any devices on the 1Gbit switch will lose all connectivity to other devices until you zone them. The port numbers will be 2,0 to 2,7 in the fabric.

Regards,
Stephen
