I noticed the 3 event viewer stop errors below after the last time I rebooted our Exchange server. This is on an HP NetServer LH 3r.

Time: 6:28:57 AM
Event ID: 22
Source: hpgate

The description for Event ID ( 22 ) in Source ( hpgate ) could not be
found. It contains the following insertion string(s): , hpgate,
.Translated.

*************

Time: 6:28:57 AM
Event ID: 22
Source: hpgate

The description for Event ID ( 22 ) in Source ( hpgate ) could not be
found. It contains the following insertion string(s): , UP MPS 1.4 -
APIC platform, .Translated.

*************

Time: 6:42:39 AM
Event ID: 7026
Source: Service Control Manager

The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
hpgate

*************

I did a search for "hpgate" in the registry and came up with this
location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_HPGATE.
Is there something I can do to resolve this? TIA

-Phil

This is caused by a conflict with HPGATE.SYS and a new MS Security patch. I have attached the new driver that will resolve this issue. Simply overwrite the file in the %systemroot%\winnt\system32\drivers folder, then reboot.

This error has been corrected in the HP NetServer TopTool Agents version 5.51 and up (as of 10/21/02, 5.54 is current). The recommended procedure is to uninstall the Agents, then install the latest version from:
http://www.hp.com/toptools/download/server_agents.html

Note: Use the Uninstall menu option from START - PROGRAMS - HP NetServer Agents - Uninstall. Do not use the Control Panel ADD/REMOVE Software.

Questions? Email NetServer support at:

NetSrvTech_Support@hp.com
I am having a problem also with the HPGATE.SYS, but I am on a Vectra VLi8, not a server. Just installed a series of Windows updates and Im sure it is due to the same reasons. Obviously, I do not want to install the HP top tools server agents, where can I just get the updated HPGATE.SYS? The event log message I am getting is "The description for Event ID ( 22 ) in Source ( HPGate ) could not be found. It contains the following insertion string(s): , PC Compatible Eisa/Isa HAL, .Translated."
TIA
*BOB*
