The Netserver E45 included (factory default) a AHA-2910 (AIC 7860) SCSI controller. This is Ultra-Narrow SCSI, 50 pin (one channel).
The largest drive tested & supported by HP in the E45 was 9 GB. Here are the supported hard drives:

D4910A: 4.2 GB UW SCSI common tray, 7,200 rpm
D4911A: 9.1 GB UW SCSI common tray, 7,200 rpm
D7049A: 9.1 GB UW SCSI common tray, 10,000 rpm

These hard drives are no longer available from HP, but can typically be found from other sources.

Hello HP'ers!

Two simple question:
What kind of SCSI controller was shipped with the Netserver E45?

And what max. capacities of harddisks my be used?

Thanks for your help!

Axel

Most probably it was Adaptec and there is no limit to capacity, just limited to the transfer rates of the controller no matter what Ultra drive you have attached

Hello and thanks for your answer.
I may get a IBM 9GB SCSI3 harddisk with 68pin connector.

Is it possible to connect this disk with an adapter to the 50pin cable?

Thanks for all your help!

Axel

Physically it is possible to connect, with a 68-pin to 50 pin converter. Whether the drive will then actually work is another question.
As with the older Netserver systems, the HP SCSI drives were not LVD. If a LVD drive is not seen in an older system, making the drive a SE may resolve the problem. Need to enable force single-ended mode on the hard drive itself.

You will need to find the jumper settings for the drive if you do not have the drive manual.

This is all untested by HP, may or may not work!

Thanks for your posting, Terri!

I will test the disk when it arrives.
It is a 9GB IBM 68pin SCSI drive.

Thanks also for the info about LVS and SE. I will search for those settings if the drive drives me crazy ;-)

Axel
