SCSI Card

We have LC2000 pedestal server and SureStore DLT 80 external and some other SCSI devices. Is there a way to use the internal SCSI controller that comes with the server(I hope)? Or would it be better off buying a SCSI card?

You can purchase an internal to external cable for the onboard SCSI controller. The external port goes to one of the knockout panels on the back. Part Number to order is D8600A. This will work just like any other SCSI card.

The LC2000 has a dual channel SCSI controller and one of the channels can be taken external with the external adapter D8600A and SCSI knockout. Are the other additonal SCSI devices you mention internal or external? Will you be cabling your hot swap hdd cage to SCSI A or to a NetRaid? If you have your hdd cage cabled to a NetRaid Controller you have SCSI A available for Internal SCSI Devices. If you cable your hot swap cage to SCSI A you will need another HBA for any additional internal or external SCSI Devices.

Correction to the last reply: everything is right on the money except that, with the dual channel Symbios SCSI integrated controller, you can use SCSI B to create an external SCSI port. So if you do not have a NetRAID card installed, then your hot swap drives are cabled to SCSI A. This leaves SCSI B free to add the internal to external SCSI cable.
The primary configuration where both SCSI A & SCSI B are used would be when both hot swap and common tray hard drives are installed. If both integrated SCSI ports are already in use, you will need to add a HBA card.
