NetRAID problems with LX Pro...

Hi All,

We have inherited a Netscape Mail system, an LX Pro with one 9.0Gb disk. The system will be de-commissioned in about a year's time.

Our problem is we tried to install 3x4.0Gb disks' into the system and upon bootup saw the following message on the screen...

HP NetRAID Adapter BIOS VER A.01.00 Dec 11,1996

Options: experienced users may press for HP NetRAID Express Tools now

Firmware Initializing

Host Adapter at Baseport F810h is not responding

No HP NetRAID Adapter

Insert bootable media in the appropiate drive

We are by no means experts with HP NetServer's so attempted to rollback by removing the exta disks' from the server and rebooted. The above message still appeared.

We opened up the system and noted a NetRAID card. We re-seated the card, rebooted and the above message still appeared. We removed the NetRAID card and we noted more or less the same message except it didn't complain about a NetRAID card missing.

We installed the 9Gb disk in a de-commissioned LC II box and it recognised the disk, so we know our disk is fine.

Anyone have any ideas?

Dennis,

First of all the firmware version of the card is the original firmware and
all sorts of problems can arise from that. You need to flash the firmware
to A.04.03 from
http://www.hp.com/cposupport/swindexes/hpnetraid8163_swen.html Download the
firmware file to your desktop, then double click on it to extract it to a
floppy. It will create a bootable diskette.

Also download the BIOS and ECU for the LX Pro and repeat the above process
to create the diskettes. Both the BIOS and ECU files will extract to create
bootable diskettes.

Boot the server to the BIOS diskette and flash the BIOS to 1.00.11.CDOL
(even if it is the same revision)

Next put the NetRaid card back in the server but don't cable anything to it
yet. Boot the server to the firmware diskette and attempt to flash the
firmware of the Netraid. If you still get the messages about the netraid
not responding, try moving the card to another slot and repeating. After
flashing fw of the NetRaid boot into Ctrl-M and make sure you can access it.
Then cable up your hdd's and make sure your netraid can see the hdd's in
ctrl-M

If the firmware flashes fail it is possible that the netraid card or its
cache have failed.
