topic LC3 Drive Failures in Netservers

Have a LC3 server and 2 out of the 3 drives in the array are failing. drive 2 and 3 failed one day and i forced 2 online and rebuild of 3 and all came up fine. Two days later, drives 1 and 3 failed. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what i need to check that might be causing this to happen. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi,

The best work around may be to contact the hardware support. You have to make sure that the disk drives are good, the power supply, the controllers and the cards.

Check for any log files in the system regarding the hardware failures. Test the drives with disk tools.

I remember the same problem ( disk going offline and forcing it online ) and resolved that after replacing all disk drives.

HTH,
Shiju

George,
Do you ever run consistency checks? Check all hdd's for any errors, either other errors or media errors. You need to check the fw of all hdds and for your netraid controller. I would post this info and we can help you from there. Make sure you have a good backup as well.

Ciao,
Greg
Hi.

Does this happens after a system reboot, or it happened when it was up? Maybe you have some firmware issue on your netraid or it can be a disk. I would sincerely contact the support. If you are familiarized with Ctrl+M NetRaid Tools, I would look for some errors on the disks. I've seen sometimes problems with disks on the same bus caused by a single disk. The problem is to identify the correct one. I would look to the NetRaid Tools or the NetRaid Assistant to get some information about the disks (media errors, it doesn't spin up, ...).

Good luck,

Ricardo
