Yes, PIII 500MHz processors are fine in this system. Also, I made a mistake, you don't need the fan kit. It's for PIII 550MHz processors and above.

Hello,
I want to upgrade my LH3 from dual P II's 400MHz to PIII's 500MHz (512K cache) and 100 MHz bus speed but I'm not sure about the VRM's that I have currently sitting in my LH3. Are the VRM's presently in my LH3 OK or do I have to replace them as well? I want to purchase a matching set from a second party (i.e. non HP)and from what I can tell all the P III 500 MHz CPU's run at 2.0 volts. Currently I have BIOS 4.06.38...is this OK. Thanks for your help.

Timothy

Your VRM's should be fine. You will need to purchase a fan kit to run these processors in this system. The part number is: D8595A

Your BIOs should be ok, but you might as well upgrade to the latest anyways. You can find the BIOS here:

http://h20004.www2.hp.com/keeper_rnotes/bsdmatrix/matrix50448.html

Thanks Theo,

Thanks for the prompt reply but why do I need to purchase another set of fans. My LH3 seems to be loaded with all kinds of extra fans. Also my choice of P III 500's are OK
