On the errant advice of a tech support person at a not-to-be-named-here e-tailer, I purchased a HS drive that will not even fit into the drive bay on our Netserver LC3. The drive model is D7174A and is a 7,200 rpm Ultra2 Scsi hot-swap drive. What are the chances that it would work if I purchased a compatible tray and transferred the drive to the new tray?

Thanks, in advance!
I forgot to add that I currently have two D5039A drives in a RAID-1 configuration and am planning on going to RAID-5.

It will work! But...you will need to force the drive to signal ended mode. A LVD drive (such as you have) can work LVD or SE. A LVD drive will not work to well with SE drives on the same SCSI chain. Thus you will need to set a jumper to "Force SE Mode".

The tough part could be finding the right pins to jumper and finding a small enough jumper.

I do this by finding the model number on the label (ex.DDYS-T18350) and go the manufacture's website (in the case IBM) and search for documentation on the jumper settings.

Hopefully this is helpful.
