Kenny,

Assuming your running off the Symbios SCSI controller. Try to clear CMOS, flash the bios with the latest from here: http://h20004.www2.hp.com/keeper_rnotes/bsdmatrix/matrix28161.html

Then enter F2, hit F9 to restore defaults and F10 to save and exit. This should bring back your Symbios SCSI Controller.

Ciao,
Greg

When the machine didnt boot after the move, I opened the cover and made sure everything has fastened and tightly in its place. Do you really think that flashing the bios and upgrading it would do the trick? What are the chances that this is a hard drive problem?

Kenny,

Clearing the CMOS and flashing BIOS resolves an incredible amount of issues. Also there is a chance of the Symbios controller disappearing unless you are at the latest BIOS. The whole process takes 10 minutes which is not a huge investment in time to try to resolve your NO OS found message.

Do you see the Symbios controller banner on post? If not this will fix it. IF the Symbios controller does banner and you can get into Ctrl-C and you can't find your hard drive try a different slot and reboot. If the second scenario is what you are looking at then it may be your backplane that is at issue. Regardless of either still flash your bios as well.

Ciao,
Greg

Hey again,

I will absolutely flash the bios the next time im at my datacenter. In regards to the Symbios Banner, yes it appears and actually shows my hard drive. In my HP Top Tools utility, i can even scan the hard disk without failure.

Regarding clearing my CMOS, i know its well documented, but all I need to do is change dip switch 4 (i think)
boot (see error messages) and then shutdown and boot again to PC DOS and run the flashmmc command?

THanks
-K

Kenny,

Have you run a disk verify on the hard drive in the Symbios controller to verify communication between the controller and the drive as well as making sure you don't have any bad blocks that need to be mapped? Also check the SCSI Bios to be enabled as Theo mentioned otherwise you can't boot to that controller.

Ciao,
Greg

nope, after it scans my system and finds the scsci devices it gives me the PCI Boot ROM not installed. Then it tries to do a network boot and eventually fails.
