LC 2000 U3 additional power supply?

the configuration:
LC 2000 U3
- 3x 18,2GB HDD hot-swap
- only one power supply

We want to add 3 additional 73,4GB HHDs hot-swap

Is it true, that we need an additional power supply unit (D8513A)
Is it required???

Got the information from HP
specs paper.

Do you have an internal tape drive installed in this LC2000? If so, what model?
It is recommended that you do add the 2nd power supply for power load balancing when adding these larger 73 GB drives. If there is also an internal tape drive installed, this may then become a requirement.
Which HP spec paper are you referring to?

Chris,
the Ultrium is a tape device that need lot of power for the hight speed motor, so you NEED the second power supply, also take care of the air flow that will go out from the Tape drive, it should be free of obstructions because this can cause you trouble with the drive itself(get very hot and shutdown). This is a common problem with the internal installation of these devices.

A couple of months ago I was having trouble with my LC hotswap drives, and was told by the online tech at HP support that an additional power supply is needed for over 3 Hotswap drives.

We were talking about the D8210 36Gb drives at the time, as I remember.

He said "those drives draw a lot of power"

If I were you, I'd pick one up.

Meloni is correct. In this case you will need to add the 2nd power supply for the LC2000 before adding the new drives.
