I just installed 2003 Server Standard Edition on my LX Pro. Task Manager only shows 1 cpu while I've got 4 installed. Windows 2000 Server worked fine with 4. Any hints on how to correct this?
Thanks!

Hi John,

Well, Windows 2003 is not supported by HP to work on this server. They haven't tested it for conflicts or compatibility.

I know there are people that have gotten 2003 to work on unsupported Netservers, hopefuly some of them will reply.

Have you checked the Microsoft Knowledge base yet?

Mark

Thanks for your help. I found a Microsoft KB article that explains that Windows Server 2003 won't work in SMP on "some Pentium Pro 200 and Pentium II" configurations. That's by design. "Intel discovered that if you use Pentium Pro and Pentium II processors in computers that have two or more processors, the transaction lookaside buffer may be corrupted. The corruption of the lookaside buffer may cause computer instability, data corruption, or other unpredictable results."
I also found a possible workaround: Press F5 during the installation process and force an smp hal to get installed. I'll give it a try.
